Board members can network with lawmakers at the Capitol Conference and Legislative Reception February 10 in Austin. Members will get updates from TASB Governmental Relations staff and legislative insiders, tour the Capitol, and later visit with legislators and state leaders in a more informal setting.

January is School Board Recognition Month

Recognizing board members for their commitment and sacrifice takes a combined effort on the part of all they serve: administrators, school staff, students, and the community. Even though showing appreciation should be a year-round process, taking advantage of the designated School Board Recognition Month in January assures that these important people receive some of the thanks they deserve.

TASA/TASB Pre-Legislative Seminar

School Safety and the Law

A half-day Legal Issues in School Safety Conference is set January 25 at the Austin Hilton Hotel, immediately prior to TASA’s midwinter meeting. Board members, superintendents, and school attorneys can receive guidance from the Texas School Safety Center and learn the latest about crisis communication and district liability and immunity issues.

Focus on the Texas Legislature

All eyes will be on the Capitol during the TASA/TASB Pre-Legislative Seminar December 5 at the Austin Hilton Hotel, and members can register on site. Legislators and political commentators will join education experts to provide their perceptions of the economic issues and education priorities for the upcoming session.
